Depending on the culture, having multiple spouses is not unheard of, though frowned upon if, for example, you are a mere commoner without a fat noble pocket to excuse the fines.

A fine example would be in the case of Corran and Syvbar. In the world of Azeroth, Lady Syvbar is actually wed to another man. One might say it was an 'arranged'marriage. Lady Syvbar is still bound by that destiny in the realm of Arthavia; however, on Azeroth, there was a romantic interest between Corran and Syvbar, and I chose to forego it in the realm of Arthavia. A little taboo never hurt anyone and is always a right spice to flavor any situation.  Aren't secret weddings romantic?
